Argentina is the second largest country in South America after Brazil, and the eighth largest country in the world. Most of the Argentines live in the rich plains of Pampas, which takes up 1/4 of the country’s territory. Gaucho, the name of shepherds who used to live in Pampas region, gave great influence to the culture of Argentina. Enjoyed by Gauchos before, the charbroiled beef ‘Asado’ and ‘Matte Tea’ are now the most popular foods in Argentina. The capital Buenos Aires is called the ‘Paris of South America.’ One of the most famous opera theaters in the world, ‘Teatro Colon,’ is located in this city. La Boca region of Buenos Aires is the origin of the ballroom dance, Tango, as well as the home of the renowned soccer club, ‘Boca Juniors.’ Diego Maradona, a soccer star who played for Boca Juniors, is loved by Argentines who are fanatical over soccer. Interestingly, Maradona has a tattoo of Che Guevara on his right shoulder. Che Guevara is a revolutionist from Argentina respected not only by the South American people, but also by the whole world. Many tourists visit the ‘Museo del “Che” Guevara’ located in Alta Gracia, Cordova state. Appointed as UNESCO’s World Heritage in 1984, Iguazu Falls located on the country’s border with Brazil is also one of Argentina’s favorite tourists’ spot.
