Bahamas is an island country formed with more than 700 islands in the Caribbean Sea. Some major islands of the country include Nassau, which is the capital of Bahamas, New Providence, where about 70% of the population lives in, and Grand Bahamas. As the countless islands of Bahamas have many beautiful beaches and a fine average temperature of 20 C throughout the year, Bahamas has been known as a famous tourist resort for a long time. Bimini Islands of Bahamas is known as the background of the novel ‘The Old Man and The Sea’ by the American novelist Ernest Miller Hemingway (July 21st, 1899 ~ July 2nd, 1961). Bimini Islands even has a memorial hall to honor this great novelist. Opened from the Christmas season to the New Year in many islands of Bahamas, Junkanoo Festival is visited by thousands of foreigners who come to feel the Bahamian culture. During the festival, the sounds of the traditional Bahamian drum, ‘Goombay’, fill the islands. In most of the islands of Bahamas, there are straw markets selling traditional Bahamian hats and baskets made with straw.
