Honduras is located on the center of the American Continent. In Spanish, the name Honduras means, ‘A deep place from the coast.’ Textile and coffee production are the leading industries of Honduras. In fact, Honduras is the third largest textile exporter in the world. Meanwhile, coffee has been the traditional exporting item of the country for a long time. In the ‘2006 Honduras Cup of Excellence,’ where coffees around the world are rated and awarded, the Honduran coffee won the grand prize. Honduras is also famous for having many remains of ancient civilization. Copán Ruinas on the west of Honduras is the remains of the ancient Mayan Civilization which prospered in Central America. As an exemplary Mayan remains with excellent condition, Copán Ruinas was appointed as UNESCO’s World Heritage in 1980. In this area, there are many Mayan heritages which come from the time when the Mayan techniques of making stone monuments and altars were at their best. The islands of Honduras in the Caribbean Sea are famous for their beautiful beaches, as well as exciting water sports of threading through coral reefs. Among these islands, Roatan Island is the most famous resort, visited by countless foreigners and Hondurans.
