Saint Lucia is an island country formed with Martinique Island and Saint Vincent Island located on the Lesser Antilles, east of the Caribbean Sea. The two islands of the country were formed by volcanic activities. On the Southwest region of the islands stand the Gros (2,619 feet) and Petit (2,461 feet) volcanoes which appear on the national flag of Saint Lucia. With beautiful nature and convenient tourist facilities, Saint Lucia is praised to be an excellent place for weddings, honeymoons and family trips. The country even received the ‘World Travel Award’ many times. The ‘World Travel Award’ is a globally recognized award for tourism. Many festivals are opened in Saint Lucia, including the Calypso Contest, Margaret Festival, Rose Festival and Jazz Festival. Among these festivals, the Jazz Festival, or St. Lucia Jazz, is one of the best festivals not only in Saint Lucia but also in the Caribbean Sea. First opened in 1992, St. Lucia Jazz is opened every May. Saint Lucia is also famous for producing two winners of the Nobel Prize; the economist Sir Arthur Lewis who received the Nobel Prize for Economy in 1979, and the poet Derek Walcott who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1992.
