Trinidad and Tobago is an island country next to Venezuela. The country is formed with Trinidad Island, Tobago Island and other 21 large and small islands. Trinidad Island is known to be the origin of calypso, a music genre popular not only in Trinidad and Tobago but also in many countries of the Caribbean Sea. Calypso has a cheerful rhythm and an impromptu lyric. During the carnival season of Trinidad and Tobago, a calypso contest is opened to boast the talents of calypso singers. The people of Trinidad invented and developed a steel pan, a sort of drum. Currently, steel pan is recognized as a form of music. Limbo dance also originates from Trinidad Island. Enjoyed all around the world today, the aim of limbo dance is to pass under a level bar using the rebound of the waist while dancing to the music. Opened during February to March every year, Trinidad Carnival was first started in the end of 19th century. This carnival is the greatest event and festival of Trinidad and Tobago. During the carnival season, most people in Trinidad enjoy parades and participate in various contests and concerts.
