Official name of Bhutan is the Kingdom of Bhutan. Bhutan is on the eastern part of the Himalayan Mountain and most of its territory consists of mountain areas above 2,000 m. Most people believe in Lamaism (Tibetan Buddhism). Temple Dzong on the high mountain, the colorful flags and the monks in red clothes are seen everywhere. The Bhutanese take every measure to protect the natural environment. They restrict the number of in-bound foreign tourists and do not implement any environmentally harmful development. This country conserves more than 70% of its territory and is the home to some of the world’s rare animals and plants. The people of this nation wear traditional garments. Men wear the knee-high “gho” and women wear the ankle-high “kira.” Bhutan is famous for the national development index based on GNH (Gross National Happiness), not GNP (Gross National Product).
