East Timor is located in the eastern part of the Timor Island and became the first independent country in the 21st century in 2002 led by the current president Xanana Gusmao (1948~). Most people are Roman Catholic, which played an important role for the spirit of East Timorese in their independence movement. Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo and Jose Ramos-Horta won the Novel Peace Prize in 1996 for their effort in promoting the difficulties of their country and are looking for a peaceful settlement. The environment of East Timor is naturally beautiful, although it is not cultivated. Mount Tatamailau is the highest mountain in East Timor at 2,963 meters, and Tutu Ala is a beautiful beach. The East Timor coffee is one of the world best as well as the major export item, which is grown in alpine regions like Ermera, an area that receives the rain and the wind.
