Indonesia, the worlds largest archipelago of 17,508 islands, encompasses most of the Malay Archipelago, except for the Philippines. Major islands include Kalimantan (aka Sumatra or Borneo), Bali (the famous tourism destination) and Java, Jakarta (the capital). Indonesia is the land of more than 400 inactive and extinct volcanoes. The largest eruption in recent times was Krakatau in 1883. In Indonesia, there are more than 300 diverse tribes including the Nias, Rampong, Rejang and Loinang. Most of the tribes live in Java, Bali and Madura islands. Each tribe has its unique language, custom and lifestyle and even different Adapt (common law before the Islam was established). Buddhism flourished before the Islamic culture has been ingrained in todays Indonesian lives, and there are magnificent Buddhist relics across the country.
