Official name of Pakistan is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Pakistan, as its name suggests, is an Islamic country, and 97% of its population is Muslim. The name Pakistan originates from the letters of five states; Punjab, Afghan, Kashmir, Sind, and Baluchistan. It is a federal state consisting of 4 states. However, Kashmir, the conflict area between India and Pakistan, is not a part of Pakistan, It is religiously homogenous but lingually heterogeneous. Though Urdu and English are the official languages, each region has its own dialect. Most Pakistanis can speak more than two languages. Pakistan is also the birthplace of the Indus Orientation (2500 B.C. ~ 1500 B.C.). Mohenjodaro, the largest Indus city (UNESCO World Heritage, 1980), and Harapp still remain in Pakistan. Pakistan is the home to the K2, the second highest mountain following the Mt. Everest.
* Note: Pakistan achieved Muslim separation from India in 1947, led by Mohammed Ali Jinnah, when
the Indian continent won its independence from the British.
