Finland is the ‘Country of Lakes and Islands’ located in the shore of the Baltic Sea. According to the Finnish government, the country has 187,888 lakes and 179,584 islands. In the northern part of Finland, a ‘white night’ phenomenon is observed during the summer where the sun doesn’t set for more than 70 days. On the other hand, a ‘Kaamos (polar night)’ phenomenon is observed during the winter where the sun doesn’t come up. For the Finnish people, Sauna is a culture that cannot be separated from their everyday lives. In fact, Sauna is a Finnish word for ‘bath’ or a ‘bath tub.’ Today, it is globally used as a proper noun. The Santa’s Village located in Rovaniemi of Finland is very famous. In this village, Santa Clause stays throughout the year to answer all the letters send by children around the world. Some famous national brands of Finland include Nokia and Xylitol. Nokia is the largest enterprise in Finland famous for manufacturing cell phones. The enterprise plays an important role for the economy of the country. On the other hand, Xylitol is a natural sweetener that prevents tooth decay. Finland filed the first international patent for manufacturing this sweetener. The Finnish people are proud of their native musician Jean Sibelius (1865~1957) who composed a symphonic poem called ‘Finlandia.’
