Bounded by the Baltic Sea, Lithuania is one of the Baltic States along with Estonia and Latvia. Among these three countries, Lithuania is the country with the largest territory and population. Vilnius, the Capital of Lithuania, is one of the oldest cities in the country. The old district of Vilnius well preserves traditional buildings with various styles of architecture, such as the Gothic St. Anne’s Church from the 16th century and the Baroque St. Peter & Paul’s Church from the 17th century. UNESCO appointed the district as World Heritage in 1994. As Lithuanians enjoy singing with others, there are many amateur and professional choirs in the country. The ‘Lithuanian Song Festival’ is opened every four to five years. This festival is a very important cultural event which combines Lithuanians under a theme called ‘song.’ The cultural and artistic level of Lithuania is very high, producing many superb artists such as one of Europe’s top drama producer, Eimuntas Nekrosius.
