Poland is an Eastern European Country located on the shore of the Baltic Sea. The country boasts long history of literature, music and arts. Poland raised five winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature. One of these winners is Henryk Sienkiewicz, who wrote the novel ‘Quo Vadis.’ This novel was re-created into various versions of movies, such as the ‘Quo Vadis’ of Mervyn Le Roy, and the ‘Quo Vadis Domine’ of Jerzy Kawalerowicz. The famous Pole composer and pianist, Chopin (1810~1849), is still respected by musicians all around the world. Some famous movie directors from Poland include Roman Polanski who made the movie ‘The Pianist’ and Krzysztof Kieslowski who made the ‘Three Colors: Blue, White and Red.’ Meanwhile, Poland preserves the sad memories of the World War II, such as the notorious Auschwitz Concentration Camp (selected as UNESCO’s World Heritage in 1979). The movie ‘Schindler’s List (1993)’ was filmed in Auschwitz and Krakuw in Poland. Krakuw is famous for the Wieliczka Slat Mine (selected as UNESCO’s World Heritage in 1978). Inside the mine, there is the Chapel of St. Kinga, a fantastic building built by the miners using pure salt. The famous products of Poland include amber, art glass and vodka. Poland is also famous for being the homeland of Copernicus, Mrs. Curie and Pope Joannes Paulus II.
