Rumania is a Mid European country famous for being the homeland of Vlad Tepes, the historic model of Count Dracula. ‘Dracula’ was the nickname of Vlad Tepes, meaning ‘the son of the devil.’ However, Tepes was actually a hero who saved Rumania from the Ottoman Empire (Currently Turkey). Located in Brasov, the Bran Castle of Rumania (also called the ‘Castle of Dracula’) is visited by many tourists. Besides the Bran Castle, there are many medieval buildings in Rumania. Among such buildings, the Peles Castle, which is known as one of the most beautiful castles in Europe, and the Black Church, which is Rumania’s greatest Gothic church, are the most famous ones. Rumania is also the homeland of Nadia Comaneci (born in 1961) who was a globally renowned gymnast. Rumanians are also proud of the composer and violinist George Enescu (1881~1955) and the poet Mihai Eminescu (1850~1889).
