Slovenia is a Southern European country that separated from the old Yugoslavia in 1991. In 2004, the country joined NATO and EU. More than half of the country is covered by mountains, and the highest mountain is Mt. Triglav. Mr. Triglav is the first national park to be appointed by Slovenia, and its image is even used in the National Flag. Soca Valley of the Triglav National Park is famous for being the background of Hemingway’s famous novel, ‘A Farewell to Arms.’ The park also has an area called Bohinj, which is a famous wintertime resort. Every September, a festival called the Cow’s Ball opens in this area where numerous people come to enjoy folk dances and songs. Meanwhile, the poem ‘Zdravljica’ by the country’s most representative romantic poet, France Preseren (1800-1849), has been used in the National Anthem of Slovenia since 1991. In Ljubljana, the Capital of the country, there are many famous masterpieces of the architect Joze Plecnik (1872~1957). One of these masterpieces includes the Triple Bridge. The pictures of Preseren and Plecnik were each used in the one thousand tolarj bills and five hundred tolarj bills. The tolarj bills were circulated before Euro.
