Located on the center of Europe, Switzerland is a mountain country where most of its territory is taken up by the Alps and the Jura. The beautiful view of the high mountains with icecaps, the picturesque lakes under the mountains and the small villages surrounding them endlessly tempt people to visit the country. Switzerland is established by the unification of 26 states called ‘Canton,’ which has strong autonomous rights. There are four official languages in Switzerland: German, French, Italian, and Romance. Since 1815, Switzerland has been practicing political and diplomatic neutrality. To keep this neutral position, the country didn’t even enter EU. Thanks to such neutrality, numerous headquarters of international organizations such as the European Headquarters of UN, ILO, WHO, WTO etc are located in Geneva, Switzerland. The famous Swiss folk song, yodel, originally came from the people living in the Alps who used this unique tone to communicate with each other or call their stocks. Switzerland is also famous for cheese, chocolate and watch. Especially, Swiss watch brands, such as Rolex and Omega are famous all around the world.
