Vatican is an independent country located in Rome, the Capital of Italy. More officially, the country is called the Vatican City. The head of Vatican is the Pope. The majority of the country’s population of 900 people (as of 2006) includes churchmen, volunteers for the Papal court and their families. The Papal court is the organization which governs the Catholics all around the world. It is also the legislature and administration of Vatican. Vatican independently operates public services such as phone service, bank, postal service, radio broadcasting station, etc. Court guards organized only with youths from Switzerland protect the major facilities of Vatican. This restricted qualification for the guards is applied because when the Pope faced difficulties during the Medieval Ages, the Swiss military supported him. Without a proper visa, only the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel and the St. Peter’s Basilica can be visited. The Vatican Museum has many masterpieces of the three masters of Italian Renaissance Arts; Raffaello, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci. The museum also has other numerous art pieces including Greek and Roman sculptures.
