Samoa officially changed its name from ‘Western Samoa’ to the current one in 1997. Samoa is made up with many islands in the Western Samoa Island and most residents live in the biggest island, Savaii and Upolu Island where the capital city of Appia is located. The two volcanic islands are habitats for beautiful coral reefs and Mount Silisili (1,858m high) sits in Savai, while Mount Pito (1,100m high) in Upolu. Samoa has an abundant amount of tropical fruits like coconut palms, bananas, cacaos and marine resources and boasts miles long white sand beach, water falls and intact natural environment. Teuila Festival is the nations’ largest annul festival held in September in Appia. During the festival, participants can enjoy themselves in diverse programs including songs, handicraft and traditional dances. In particular, Fautasi (long ship) competition, fire show and dance performance are so important ones that they cannot be missed.
